    Default Inca Tern

I have just started to re-edit all my files and organize them better.
Here is one from last year. Was really lucky to find a colony full if these guys. These guys where incredibly tame, you could actually be 1 meter away from them!

What an elegant bird, the white handlebar is amazing. I mostly like the framing and placement of the bird, but think you could take off the most OOF parts on the right. Great detail in the plane of focus. From the exposure I guess the light was pretty low. Would the bird have tolerated some fill flash? That might have opened up the area around the eye. This is one case where I can understand the HAP motivation, I'm not normally one of them. But here if you were a little to the right the back of the head and bill tip might have been less out of focus. I don't mean all the way to having the bill parallel to the sensor, I like the engagement of the bird looking out of the frame.

A beautiful bird and nicely captured. I agree that some combination of a little head turn and some more DOF could have helped.

what a beautiful bird! do you have more pictures? love the placement - agree would have been nice for tip of beak to be in focus.

Well done. Ditto all the positive comments above. Moving a bit to the right would have better paralleled the subject but do note that the head angle is perfect as is. I worked on a repost yesterday, Sunday but did not have time to post it till now.

I did a lot including a small color balance adjustment, bill clean-up including getting rid of the tiny white feather, lightening the area around the eye with a Tim Grey dodge and burn, sharpening the eye and face, and sharpening the distal half of the bill with a contrast mask. That last trick made the bill too red so I added about 50 points of CYAN to the REDs in Selective Color. All as detailed in Digital Basics.

I hope that you like it young man.
