    Default Young Elk in Velvet

    Photographed these young male elk in RMNP last summer. There was still snow in July near the top of the mountains which you can see in the background. There was some sparring going on but only got rear views of that. Like this one in nice evening light.

    Canon 1D3, Canon 100-400L
    F11,1/500sec, ISO 640, manual mode
    Handheld

    Marina - great, warm light and the velvet shows nicely. I'm not sure what your focal length was but I might have gone wider if possible to include the full bodies of all 3 elk. There's a fairly strong halo on the left edge of the left elk and the right edge of the middle elk.

    the light was exquisite, Marina
    lovely colour and sheen on their coats too
    I like how you framed/cropped this, and the diagonal lines of the BG work very well for me here
