Default White on Black - Cattle Egret with Nesting Material

Photographed several Cattle Egret @ Wako a couple of weeks ago. They had a routine down on their nest building missions. I wish for more of the eye, but it was the best of the bunch. I am not in the habit of photographing against a black background, but I liked how this capture turned out. It was nice to visit and photograph in a different environment.

    Marina:

A striking image because of the dark BG, great pose, angle in frame, nesting material.

I would try to tease a bit more detail out of the whites if you can.

If you use color efex pro, the detail extractor could help on the whites, or a linear burn would be a viable option.

    Cheers

Like you I wish for more of the eye but this is very good. Excellent IQ, a little more detail in the whites will make this special.

Hi Marina, good flight angle, and well placed in the frame. Thats a comfy piece of building material the egret is carrying, and glad most of the eye is visible. Im glad there are bits of foliage still visible in the BG, looks natural than a fully black BG.

I love how this looks like a painting, Marina. I think the black BG works really well here. Beautiful wing position and great how you can see the eye (doesn't bother me that it's not a 100% view). Love the red tips of those leaves and the awesome breeding colors of the bill.

In general I am not a fan of black backgrounds but this is special, a really striking image. I would try to lower the brightness in the head region just a little. This would make a nice print.
