This is the male. I did consider removing the pale area at the bottom but decided to leave it, sometimes I think this sort of image can appear a little too contrived. On reflection I think I might have reduced the brightness of the lichens just a tad more.

    All C & C welcome.

Hi Jon, good DOF here, and you have brought out the colours on the little guy so well, and spot on. I like the feather detail, sharp, and the open beak adds interest. Blending in the lighter area below wont harm the image, or make it look 'contrived'. I agree moving him to the left will work better, and Im fine with the lichens as is.

The lichen does not look too bright to me, the bird is beautiful, nice and sharp. The bg colors are very nice.

Very nice colors, nice open beak and BG. I'd also move the bird a bit left in the frame and I'd get rid of the white spot in the lower L corner. Very nice though.

Beautiful little kingfisher. Great colors. I'd agree with you about toning down the highlights in the lichens just a bit, and with above comments about placement and the white spot. But a fine shot as posted.

Nice composition, good Dof and sharp image of a beautiful subject. Might be my monitor, but feel it is ever so slightly too dark. Still a very nice image.
