using LV instead of top panel LCD helps you nail exposure, focus and not worry about this issue.

of course, you should send it for any fix anyway.

I gave up trying to read the top LCD when using long exposures I now use the stop watch on my Iphone to judge how long to leave the shutter open. A minor issue for most and a pain to have to send it back to Canon to get fixed.
