This image was taken in the spring of 2010 just after a snow storm which caused all the birds to look for food at our feeders. I like the look back look of this bird and the high key effect against the snow.

    Nikon D300, ISO 400, f8, 1/250, EC +1.33, 80-400 mm @400.
Post processing: cropped, cloned a few spots in the snow, cloned some debris on the branch and desaturated the blue a few points, sharpened.

    Hi Linda.

I think this is a striking image, with a nice pose and a textured perch and snow that add interest. The subject, composition, exposure and sharpness are all excellent.

    Very well done.

I think this is a nice setting, nice perch and pose.
It just looks a bit soft, maybe a bit more sharpening?

Great pose, and I love the perch. Good job on the exposure. I love high-key, and this one is well done. I do agree with another round of sharpening though. For me this species is the one I listen for to mark my personal official start to the spring season!

Thanks all. Another round of sharpening is in order, I agree. I always have a hard time determining how much sharpening to do without leaving an image looking like toast.

Daniel, we are lucky to have this species here with us year around. I really enjoy having the singing outside, especially in the spring when they get very vocal.

I added another round of sharpening to the sparrow. I think this makes it much better.
