The snake looks done for... EXP and SH good. The light grass stems and the lack of the virtual feet are distracting and of course having the bird angled toward us rather than away would have been a huge plus.

Very nice shot. I really like the snake or what ever it is. Excellent detail, very nice light, and I agree on the bird angle, but still an image I would be proud off.
    Well done.

Hi Dan, good sharp detail on both the heron and snake. I do agree a little room at the bottom will work. Was the snake poisonous?

Great photo. I love feeding shots. Did you happen to get any of the bird actually eating it?

To answer Stuart's question, the snake is a racer (Coluber constictor) which is a common and non-venomous species.

Now, that is something you dont see every day. great moment. Its a bit tight, but good call taking the picture instead of removing TC :-) these moments dont last and who knows when you will get a chance to snap one like this again.

Excellent shot love the timing. I buck the trend here, I like the OOF grasses, I think they add realism and context.

Thanks for the comments, I knew it was tight, I only cropped a tad for comp.
I didn't expect this so had no time to backup or take off TC.
I got close to the Heron, but normally don't bother as they are so numerous here, but it grabbed the snake and I got
off several shots before it took it off into the swamp grasses, so I don't know if it ate it or not.
As Kevin said, a non poisonous snake, there are no poisonous snakes in the area I live in except for an occasional
Rattle Snake, but they are rare in the rain belt I live in.
