This Great Horned Owl and owlets nest was photographed a few weeks ago. The owlet in front was actually caught in a mid yawn even though it might appear it is scolding me. The parent, ideally I would have liked eye contact was sleepy during the morning hours, but I really liked the interaction I got between the two little ones. It amazes me just how well these owls blend in with their habitat. This particular nest is located in a ravine at the base of a hill, I was adjacent to it on the hillside giving a nice eye level view of the nest. Last I heard both of these little guys have fledged the nest. Thanks for looking and C&C always welcome.

Nice job, Josh, these are always tough to get, usually bad light and a lot of habitat in the way.
You had a nice look here and made the most of it.

    Josh:

I like the family portrait here, with one loud kid, one more reserved and the mom hoping they will just grow up and quite messing the nest!

I like the framing effect of the trunks on either side. Well exposed.

When you mentioned the external trigger, were you using a pocket wizard or something similar with the flash remote mounted closer to the nest?

    Cheers

Terrific shot, Josh. Wonderful opportunity to get an eye-level shot. Fill flash handled very nicely. Comp works well.

Josh, this is fantastic!! The fill flash idea was spot on, sweet details in the plumage, and such a strong look by both!! Well done!! A KEEPER for SURE!!
