A follow up to the shot of the Mom in the tree/nest, looking at me a couple of weeks back.
This was taken this morning, same tree, the GHO chick must be only about a week old.

    Dan:

THe owlet staring out with that intense gaze is excellent. He looks well exposed.

Do wish there was a bit more light on the eyes, and might try very subtle lightening of them

The large area of OOF trunk to the right, although unavoidable, does detract a bit.

I have tried a much tighter crop to reduce this effect. The IQ has suffered some, but you can do a better job on the raw file.

I did tweak the eyes a bit, combination of color efex pro detail extractor, tonal contrast, and old fashioned burning of the pupil. The fuzzy plumage was reflected in them making them rather milky.

    Just some ideas to consider.

    Cheers

Super cute looking pose you got here Dan. I like the diagonal aspect of what the owlet is hiding behind. I actually like the original post better as I believe the re-post loses some of the character of the surrounding habitat that makes it such a good shot. Just my opinion though. Great shot!

Thanks Randy, your's looks good to me. I had a trial version of efex but did not use it enough to really try it out.
I will have to look at it again
My crop was 50%, so your version still looks OK. The D7000 at Iso 400 with the 300 and 1.4x is pretty good.
I will work on the original.
