    Default Malachite Kingfisher take-off

Sorry, Arno - your post made me dig for this one .
Same location - I was just able to fit him into frame as he shot from the perch on the RHS. These guys are so fast and unpredictable, which makes photographing them a fun/frustrating challenge.

Seems that everytime I go to Marievale the light is challenging. On this morning there were scattered clouds around on the eastern horizon, meaning light was fluctuating constantly.

    Techs:
    Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
    f5.6 @ 1/4000 SS @ ISO-2000
Quite a crop, edge-of-frame on the LHS And no...not gonna clone out the perch

Yes ,Morkel ,an excellent capture ! Can see the light was subdued here.Marievale always dubious with light/fog.But you did very well here with high SS and ISO .Would also not clone out the perch.

Cool pose, Morkel and for iso2000, it looks nice, but I can see a bit of noise on the bird.

This must have been very difficult. So I thinks it is fantastic. Would you mind sharing your focus and metering settings?
