My first 5D3 flight shot: white-tailed kite
Here is one of the first 10 flight frames I got with the 5D3. A white-tailed Kite is a very tough subject and cameras with lesser AF usually struggle to lock focus in flight against varied BGs. The 5D3 AF tracking seems to do a good job so far. As expected the image quality is the best in Canon lineup. I still need to experiment more with the AF to form a final opinion. One thing I noticed is that the servo drive and the initial lock-on speed-especially with TC-is not as fast as 1D4 due to the lower power battery pack, so sometimes you need to plan ahead. Shutter lag is also noticeably slower compared to the 1D, and overall it is just not as fast in various operations. It's a very nice camera overall.

Very Impressive capture ,Arash.I like the wing spread and the perfect HA ,as well as the great bg.
The camera appears to be superb. Very curious to see how the AF of the 1D -X will be !

Very nice, Arash, hard to comment on the camera, it looks as nice as ever.
The wing position and angle of the Kite is really good.
You obviously had good light.

Arash:
Excellent pose, shows the dorsal wing details well, like no head/wing merge, eye, sharp, high IQ, well exposed, nice BG.
If it focuses up to your standards, it will be a wonderful tool.
Makes me want to try a D800, but the fps is a real limitation for that body.
Cheers

Was waiting for the first results from your new toy.
Seems like it did the job here! Lovely wingspread, exposure and IQ.

Good to get news from you, Arash. Keep giving us your impressions about the new body. Many of us want to hear what a BIF photographer things of the new toy.
Thanks,
Lorant

Spectacular on all counts. I did not notice any of the problems that you mentioned as I am not in your league as a flight photographer. I have not yet tried it with the 1.4X for flight photography as yet. It would seem that your concerns would be completely alleviated by the 1DX....
