    Default Lightroom 2 to 3 to 4

These two articles, and depending upon your depth of interest, the references therein, are definitely worth reading if you have images processed under LR 2 and/or 3 and you are trying to decide whether to upgrade them to LR4.

Having read them a couple of times, I look forward to the discussion that ensues.

    Jay,

Greetings. Thanks for the heads up on LR. Unfortunately, this is par for the course with LR upgrades. It's a reminder that virtual edits are not necessarily permanently available.

    Cheers,

A fine arts group I belong to in San Diego posted this:

It won't work to just bulk convert to PV2012. You have to re-develop,
however, once I figured out the new controls the results are much better.

Victoria Bampton has an excelent post on her blog
    http://www.lightroomqueen.com/2012/01/18/pv2012-develop-sliders that
explains how to work with the new controls.

PV2010 is good and PV2012 is better. But the translation from one to the
other is not so good. Make a snapshot, convert to PV2012, reset all
settings except maybe color balance and crop and start again using
    Victoria's instructions as your guide

I found Victoria's work flow right on target and coincides with the suggestions from Michael Reichmann & Jeff Schewe. I also agree that you should not do a mass conversion from Process Versions 2003 or 2010 to the new 2012 PV as Adobe has chanced the way everything works. You can still use the old Process Version in LR 4 and everything will look as it did in LR 2 or 3 for all previously adjusted images.
As I get more familiar with how LR 4 2012 works the more I like the results I'm getting.
