Default A vista that may please only me

Greetings folks, there is a small strip of HIDEOUS condominiums that have ruined a certain part of my home city's waterfront. Actually, it's fair to say that condominiums have just about destroyed the character of a city that used to be quite fine indeed. Ah well, I don't let it trouble me...it's on my walk so I obsessively photograph the buildings in all kinds of light and with all kinds of tricks. A favorite is to shoot into the sun, of course. Then play with the white balance a little bit...anyhow I hope you'll enjoy this small vista. It's even got birds and an airplane! What more could you ask for? Plenty, really. Ah! It's grand to be a self-hating Torontonian. But I can't complain too much...got awfully close to some wood ducks and shovelers today...but I digress. I'll heartily welcome your thoughts and ideas RE this image...thanks kindly.

It is interesting. It moves the viewer's eye around the frame. The more SQ crop of the repost introduces a corner to corner diagonal that I think makes it a bit stronger. Moved the contrail and got rid of a dust spot; hope that the latter was not the plane....

Nice repost...the vapor trail you moved is what I meant when I wrote "airplane" and I'm impressed by your diagonal thinking. Also: I'm a tremendous fan of square pictures. Hopefully you will give me a YAW when I thank you most sincerely for your time and thoughts and effort etc etc etc

I like Artie's square crop. My eye is drawn to those balconies on the condo block and if I was walking past often, I would be looking for some angles to get some graphics using those balconies. We all have developments in our home towns which we don't like, glad you were able to make some nice images of yours.

Yes indeed Hilary, I've spent a lot of time with those balconies. I also like the look of them. Thank you for your comments, very much.

YAW. I am pretty good at creating strong compositions. But don't forget, when I started I put every bird smack dab in the middle--the principles can be learned :)

Yes, I've noticed that you attribute a lot of your success to devotion and hard work, dedication, long days, etc etc. A natural talent and love of birds only adds meat to the gravy, so to speak.

Well, I was not talking about that at all here but in general folks who work very hard for several decades usually seem to be both lucky and successful. Funny how that works.

Nice concept Jack, and Artie's redo puts it in a whole new league. Good advice by Guruji, I have heard the concept expressed as "the harder I work, the luckier I get..."

Thanks again, folks. Arthur Morris certainly taught me something here. I'm grateful, to say the least. He might think it's no big deal, but for me, the corner-to-corner diagonal lesson is an eye-opener, so to speak.

Many thanks. Folks often come on IPTs wanting to know the single big secret. I always tell them that the only big secret is learning to pay attention to small details .

Hi Jack...not much to add..love the square crop and the colours are fabulous. Ditto your comments regarding the wall of condos that dot the Lake Ontario shoreline around Toronto these days.

Hi Jack.....love the corner to corner repost and lesson learned. I also like the little windows that have light in them . You might consider emphasizing that next time you shoot
