These pigeons are common in the dry, red centre of Australia.

    Canon EOS 3, Canon 100-300 F5.6L, ISO 100, natural light, 1/250, F8. Handheld.
Not fond of birds sitting on the ground (rock) but thought the pair made interesting composition.

John, Beautiful image! I love the complimentary colors, reddish background etc complimenting the blue faces. The artists color wheel at work. Dan Brown, Sacramento, USA

Really nice colors. Man, I miss Australia! Australia was the first business trip (4.5 months) that I took and was "homesick" to go back when I got home for real.

I prefer the position and head angle of the right side bird, but it is not like you could have moved the other one so you take what you get.

Wow - those are gorgeous birds! Nice poses and the bg is colorful and complimentary. Nice soft light and you did a good job with composition. Very nice.

Would not mind photographing them on the ground at all !!!! Have you tried shooting flat on the ground !!!! Love the poses Would only wish for a slight head turn form the left bird !!! Big Congrats !!!!

There are times when I see an image and say "I would love to visit this place, just to see these little guys" ... and boy this is one of those !!! Fantastic looking birds !! Agree with Alfred that a low-down shot would have sent this into a completely new ball park. Agree with head positions, but again, nothing you could do. Composition is great. Colors are wonderfully rich, without being over-saturated. One of my faves this year so far ! Very well done !

If the background was clear of distractions a lower angle would have helped alot. Very cool though...what a great looking species! I'd be tempted to add more canvas at right because the bird at right feels cramped as is.

Great work John and what beautiful birds. I presume this is not one of your normal hide images?

Great image of one of my favourite birds - this shows adaptation to environment really well.

Beautiful species, I'm not sure I've seen those before. Thanks for sharing. Could you have moved a bit lower?

The colors work great together, though on the color wheel, I wouldn't think that they are considered "complimentary". Technichally, green is red's compliment, BUT the colors do work together here! Beautiful birds... so strange looking!

Other than the angle of view, this is a pretty image. Nice colors. Aussie, Aussie, Aussie,,,,oi, oi, oi! ;)
