Love these laughing gulls when in breeding colors.Ft DeSot Fl. Not sure I got enough dof on the back bird? Cropped to vertical.

    Hi Cheryl,
Laughing gulls are my favorite gulls so I am already partial to this image. A DOF of 9 or 10 would have been perfect but I am liking this DOF as well. I really like your composition. Good IQ and exposure on the blacks and whites. I like the head positions as well and like the lines created by them,
    Gail

Love the interaction between the 2 and the pose of the front bird. It tells a great story. Did a good job with your crop/comp. You could probably have used a tad more but it works as as. You have 2 great head angles here, as well as great breeding colors.

Heavens, Cheryl! What could be more beautiful than a laughing gull? Two laughing gulls, maybe! Nice picture! When I move to FLA in 30 years I'll never stop flipping out over the birds you have down there!!

The back bird is a bit soft, but it is a very nice image.

Perhaps back gull not perfectly sharp but I think this is transcended by the wonderful behavior captured, the breeding colors, and the comp. Great job, Cheryl!

Hi Cheryl, good interaction captured here, and a bonus to have both with open beaks. Overall well exposed, and the breeding colours stand out nicely. With regards to DOF, I feel its only the back of the back gulls head that is just falling away out of the DOF. Maybe a touch of selective sharpening on the edges may work there.

Love the interaction and the composition, I even like that you have a hint of a shoreline in the background. DOF is OK to me, at least for web-sized posting (perhaps it would be more apparent on a larger print). Hope to see some of these beauties in a couple of weeks!!

Very nice interaction. A little selective sharpening of the bird in back would take care of your DOF issue. I'll be in FL on Sunday for a week of photography, and I'd love to see this species of gull in breeding plumage.

I envy everyone who lives along the coasts. You probably have no idea how blessed you are when it comes to bird photography opportunities.....Out here, there are many mornings when I come home without clicking the shutter once....just enjoy looking at some birds through the binoculars and drive back.

terrific comp., moment and dynamic range. higher iso and f/10 would have been better...but this is not a big miss, I'd say. Agree with Doug that USM will help. one heck of a shot.

Yes I do know how fortunate I am to be here and I am so happy as well. I can't imagine going too many days without shooting. When there are no birds I shoot macro

Great detail overall I like the beaks of both birds, would prefer all blue background. Do you have image of same birds copulating ?
