    Default Plight of the Greenback

I intentionally cropped out the eye of this reddish egret to focus attention on the plight of the fish. I like it. My girlfriend however, was not impressed. So I thought I'd toss it out for you all to weigh in on. Thoughts? (Little Estero Bay, Florida, Canon 1d4 with Artie's 300/2.8, ISO 400: 1/2000s at 5.6)

I like a bizarro shot as much as the next guy, but (and I truly despise this expression) the shot doesn't do much for me. Not to my taste would be a more intelligent way of putting it. I would be glad to see the shot with the birdface back in, myself...

    Hi Tim,
I don't know...The detail in the fish and the visible fish eye is excellent and I like the 3 little droplets. The strong diagonal line is good but I think I would like to see this image with the eye included so I can pronounce a verdict!!

It's a creative way to look at this, Tim and I rather like it. Everything is nice and sharp and it tells the story well.

    Tim:

I get the concept, but feel it would still give a strong sense of the fishes dilemma, even with the birds eye visible.

If the fish was turned so we had good eye contact with it, that might carry the day, but as is, I would prefer to see the birds eye.

The egrets neck looks a bit oversharpened, the feathers are starting to look a bit crunchy.

    Flying drops good.

    Cheers

Randy's got it covered for me too. I like your out-of-the-box thinking but this one just misses the mark IMO. Can we see what the full-frame image looks like, perhaps it would be worth including more of the face depending what the rest of the image looks like?
