Default Another Gull at Happy Stick-chase

Oh folks, I cannot tire of the ring-billed gulls and their waterside antics. Here we have a juvenile chasing a stick! This picture was taken with the Canon 7D and 200mm f2.8L and 1.4 extender. iso400, 1/1600, f4. If I could go back in time, I'd have upped the ISO along with the DOF, but what we have is what we have. I would sincerely welcome your comments and opinions here. The image has been cropped to approximately 75% of the original size. Also: levels and usm. Thank you for looking...

Jack, the shutter speed is okay for freezing the action, but the image could be a little brighter, hence the noise in the background and the large crop. I would place the bird higher in the frame as well. Nice action captured here.

    Jack:

I like the action captured, flying stick and drops.

I agree with Clemens about placing the bird higher in the frame.

I am OK with brightness as displayed.

    Cheers

    Hi Jack,
Clemens took the words right out of my mouth. I like the pose and the action portrayed and the grey BG. Definitely need more room on the bottom,
    Gail

It's a pleasure to agree with you folks, as sometimes I feel mystified. Not now! I couldn't agree more RE more room on the bottom. Not sure exactly why I cropped off the bottom in the first place...perhaps early-onset dementia? I like the brightness as is, obviously. Of course Clemens is absolutely right about the noise, but it doesn't bother me. Can't thank you enough for your helpful comments, all of you!

Nice action, exactly what I love about the Ring-billed Gulls (I'm a gull admirer too). Simply cropping about half the space at top may work. Brightness looks good from here too, just wish for a small glimmer in the eye, but realize the conditions weren't ideal to give it that at this moment in time. You should be seeing some beautiful fresh plumaged individuals, always fun to get some portraits of those by luring them closer with bread :-)
