Like the off angle lighting on this, it gives it a more 3D effect. Beautiful brown feathers, nice HA and a great alert pose.

Nice job on the side lighting, Joel. I agree with Gary on the 3D effect. Handsome bird and pose. Did you lighten the eye some? It looks lighter than I'm used to on killdeer. But maybe the sun was catching it just so.
A friend of mine in another town recently told me about a killdeer pair that had set up a nest in a busy boatyard, and I got the local Audubon chapter involved; they fenced off the nest area with police tape and some stakes. Doing something like that is always an option if you're really worried about the nest.

Thanks Melissa, I did lighten the eye a little, maybe too much but ... I like it.
The nest is in a new subdivision and a house is being built very close to it....lots of construction vehicles. I am sure they are unaware and I am concerned that marking it might draw unwanted attention from people who would be better off not knowing. (if you catch my drift)

Nice pose. Wide open would have made the bkgd more smooth.

Nice pose, and typical pebbly habitat. The eye's iris does seem a little bright to me, and I feel that a lower angle (if possible) would have been ideal. I hope you get an opportunity with the hatchlings if the eggs make it that far...
