What a cool looking bird! I like the iridescense on the wings and the wind blown crest.Looks like a windy day. I wish that we could see his feet and I wonder if he walked up that little hill? If he did and you got that shot I would love to see that image. I also wish for a better HA. I like the BG and the comp,

Colors on the bird are nice, and I love the foreground/background. Also the way the wind is curving his crest forward. A turn of the head would have really helped.

Agree with the above but the HA does not bother me that much. If it were mine I would take the diamond sharpening tool in PS, set it very low (8 - 10), enlarge the pic to 300% or so and just sharpen the catchlight on the eye. Some times that helps attract the viewers attn to the head.

Hi Jon, good angle considering shooting from your car. The light has brought out the iridescence on the wing nicely, and it does stand out from the rest of the wing. The wind swept crest adds interest, and I do like the overall colours of the BG.

Great capture plus showing the wind on the crest. Feather definition and colour great.

    Hi Jon

Lapwings are beautiful birds in the right light and you managed to capture some of that colour here in what looks like less than ideal conditions. Last time I went to the Dales I think I had similar weather with a gale blowing clouds horizontally across the ground! Good setting and well exposed black and whites and my only wish would be for a slightly better head angle.

    Cheers

    Rich

Thanks for the C&C everyone, much appreciated. Believe me I too, was praying for a better head angle but no chance. I managed to get about 4 frames and that was all as there was a car coming from the opposite direction.... and did not stop or slow down.

Real nice shot. I really like the grass, real nice pose, great light, and great comp.
    Well done.
