Spotted (Pardalote Pardalotus punctatus) female Callum Brae NR ACT AustraliaCanon EOS 7D Lens 400mm L USM 5.6 ISO400 F8.0 1/1000 available light 6 April 2012 8.53amCallum Brae Nature Reserve was formerly a soldiers settlement block used as a grazing property and now as a reserve exists to preserve Yellow Box (Eucalyptus melliodora) and Blakely's Red Gum (E. blakelyi) an endangered community which also includes Red Gum, Scribbly Gum (E. rossii), Red Box (E. polyanthemos) and Broad-leaved Peppermint (E. dives). Now in 2012 the reserve is recovering from severe die back caused by recent droughts so a lot of regrowth is evident. A major feature is the number of mature eucalyptus trees with an abundance of hollows which allows nesting for a variety of cockatoos and parrots and other hollow nesting birds and other animals. It has walking access only but is well worth a visit as it is within the National Capital Canberra. For a bird list of Callum Brae NR go to Eremea Birds at http://www.eremaea.com/SiteSpeciesList.aspx?Site=16080 . Two species of Pardalotes are found here the Spotted depicted here and the Striated Pardalote. The image was taken in a small regenerating eucalypt hence the emerging leavesThanks for viewingBest regardsRod Warnock
