Hate to think how much these are worth on the black market but seeing them in the wild for years to come ...priceless. Another one from my 2009 trip and our time spent with this white rhino. Thought people might prefer this one with both horns. Composed in camera, no crop.

Ya know, I can usually tell from the forum thumbnail if I'm going to like an image.
I instantly liked the thumbnail and I like this a lot. Great emphasis on all the major anatomy of the head.

    Rachel,
This is an interesting conversion, I am not sure if the "shine" is natural but it certainly is different! Great crop!!

Thanks Tom & Ken. Ken - the shine is natural, the sun almost reflected off that area of the horn.

Hi Rachel, much prefer this crop, nice conversion, PS does work well. Just a little unsure about the contrast/tonal range? Did you convert to a greyscale?

Good grounding for later this year.

    Rachel,

Very Nice! I like the shine on the horn, but if you wish to know it down a bit try using the Blur Tool set to Darken Blend mode with 20/30 brush opacity.

A very nice composition here Rachel. I like the polished lead look of the horn.

Thanks Steve, Chas and Steve. No greyscale, Steve. Chas - thanks for the tip.

I like this crop a lot, Rachel. Good conversion, and good suggestion by Chas. I would suggest doing some selective dodging and burning. Burn the shadows some more, and dodge the highlights for more whites (except the horn)...maybe do some of both on some midtone areas...just to boost tonal range a bit?
