C&C welcome. I liked the wing/head position and slightly minimalistic aspect.
LR3 Slight contrast boost, slight vignette added, brought up the blue. About 60% cropped away.
Welcome and I like your eye, composition is a very subject thing but I get what you are saying. The single bird soaring above the water tells a story. There are a few things that can make the composition stronger (remember this is subject and more a general rule). First, generally moving the subject out of the center can balance the frame and in this shot I would put the subject closer to the URH corner. Another thing to remember is large crops decrease the quality of the image. Moreover, loss of sharp detail and soft even blurry elements. In this case the bird should have represented at least 20% of the image as a general rule. Shots that display habitat can have a balance between subject detail and environment in this case if the eyes were in view and pointing at the water it would have added a sense of harmony and additional balance to the image.
I am so glad you posted and jumped in, it is the only was to improve and help others as well. There is an Education and Tutorial Forum on this site - please visit and look at the threads at the top.
