    Default A Tentative Pause

Been awhile since I've posted one of these. Got this early evening shot while taking a drive after work last week. He paused just for a moment before turning to trot off. Liked the slightly raised leg though I wish I'd gotten just a touch more room down there. 7D, 500/4 + 1.4xTCII, f6.3, 1/160s, ISO 1600, HH from vehicle, slight crop from right as viewed and top.

    Hi Steve,
I like your image of a Pronghorn antelope. There is good detail with a wonderful background. My only concern is that it would appear as though the front feet are "chopped off". I would have given them a wee bit more space at the bottom, otherwise a lovely image Steve. I have only ever seen them in a wild park, so I am quite envious.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes,
    Mark.

    Hello Steve

Sweet encounter. Love that light and great setting.

It does look just a bit "chopped" as Mark said above and I can’t decide if it looks a touch over sharpened around the antlers. I'll wait and see
what others have to say. Nice work on the BG noise reduction.

    Steve,

I always love to see your images of this animal and this is no exception. Your self critique is quite right, but for me the slight amount of "missing" leg is only a very slight problem.

Hi Steve, your images always seem to contain a nice balance of colour, lovely subtle, subdued paste colours for the BKG, juxtapose to the rich colours of the subject. Perhaps not to have had the 1.4 on and then cropped the image might have given you what you wanted from the shot, but that is always with hindsight. If you are concerned about not having enough 'below' then may be a tighter crop to make it more deliberate might be another option? I agree with Jamie that it could stand a fraction more Selective sharpening, but your call and you could just open up a fraction in the darker areas too for a bit more detail/definition.

Steve - nice portrait. Love the creamy bg and tones. I agree about the space below and I also agree with Jamie about the horns being oversharpened. I see a halo around them. Maybe a bit more selective sharpening just on the face though.

Thanks to all for the comments and suggestions for improvement.

    Steve,
This guy was by himself when I approached and I expected him to take off when I slowed down, hence leaving the 1.4xTC on. Of course he didn't. I grabbed two quick shots like this and had turned off the camera to remove the TC for a little more space when naturally, he ran away.

This sounds awfully familiar to me
