While on a quest for the elusive Harpy Eagle in the remote jungles of eastern Panama, I came across this unique flower along the banks of the Rio Tuira. The botanist in our group identified it as the rare Roseatia spooniana. Its name in the local Embera dialect translates into "Spoonflower". For some strange reason, it reminded me of the day I spent on the Hooptie Deux in January, so I thought it might be of interest to the folks on this forum. A detail of the blossom is on the next pane.
