Hello, folks. I just discovered this photo during a clean-up and I'm posting it now because your feedback would mean a great deal to me. Nest-building egrets are not commonplace here in T.O., and although I hope to get down to FLA or some of the warmer U.S. spots at some point, for now I make do with my beloved birds here in southern Ontario. Anyhow! This shot goes back to last June and it was taken with a Nikon D90 and 70-300VR at 180mm. iso200, 1/1000, f8. I've learned a few things since then and if I were to re-shoot, I'd bump the iso up to 400 and increase the shutter speed...but I think this one looks alright, all things considered. The shot was cropped (here we have about 75% of the original) and I adjusted the levels and even tried my hand at curves for the first time. USM, also.
Well! I'll eagerly await your comments and feedback. Many thanks! It's Springtime!
Sharpness is fine on this one. Looks a bit dark as posted. A frame taken before the bird past you would be stronger. The head turn really helps with the bird already past you.
Really nice Jack. The whites look good and the stick is a bonus and adds interest to the image. I love the blues in the sky with the wispy clouds. If you do brighten the image I would do it selectively on the bird as you will lose the nice blue color,
Gail
Certainly we prefer a bird that hasn't passed us, but this shot had a better flight pose and stick position than the frames taken split-seconds earlier. One of the many reasons why we keep going back again and again and again and again. The sweet luck of flight and frames-per-second!
Many thanks for the comments, folks!
