    Default 70-200mm f/2.8 II + 2x II TC vs 100-400mm f/5.6 vs 400mm f/5.6

Oops... that should be 2x III TC not II...

In case anyone is interested, I recently had all three of these lenses and did a 3-way comparison:

Alan - interesting and thanks for posting the link. I believe that you are off on the weights of the lenses though in both grams and pounds. I have the 100-400 and the 70-200 II. The 100-400 is under 3.5 lbs and so is the 70-200. The teleconverter is about 3/4 of a lb. Your gram measures cannot be correct because each lens weighs well over a kg (1000 gms).

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

    Thanks Rachel,

I have corrected the grams weight. The weight in lbs I measured on my own scale and I did not report the weight officially found on the specifications. I will recheck those too. All I know for sure is the 70-200 with the 2x tc makes a great paper weight!

    Cheers,

    Alan

My wife shoots with a 7D and the 100-400 all the time and loves the combo for its quality and versitility. I shoot a 1DMK4 and the 70-200 f 2.8 II and occasionally use either the 1.4 or 2.0 TC and also like it a lot. I believe your review is spot on in its conclusions. Thanks for sharing.

    Very interesting. Thanks.

Anyone have ideas about how the 400mm f/4 DO, the Sigma 150-500, or the Sigma 50-500 OS fit into this group?
