Default 5D Mark III Wood Duck: Unsharpened and no NR with 100% Crop

Here's another 5D III image. I did some exposure adjustments and cropped in Lightroom. Then I exported to Photoshop, where I downsized the photo and saved it for the web. No sharpening or NR other than Lightroom defaults. I almost think it looks oversharpened, even though I didn't do any sharpening. Go figure! What are your thoughts?

Amazing, the sharpness at 100% is unreal.
As for the OP, the water is really nice, silky and the duck looks great.

Thanks for this shot, I have been thinking to add a 5DIII body to my collection. Fabulous detail.

The IQ's out of sight, and the image is beautifully taken. I've spent some time comparing downloaded raw files from the 5D3 and D800. Both cameras are going to be delivering breathtaking images for the next few years. There won't be many better than this one.

    Looks great Doug!
How do you find the frame rate? How is the buffer? Any cons you can say about this camera so far?

Very good of you to share these. I think the camera's a winner! Huzzah!

Could the extra sharpness be a result of the extra downsizing needed to get from 22mpix file to web file? Instead of say 16mpix from the 1DIV. What resizing algorithm did you use in Photoshop? Bicubic?

Boy the detail at 100% sure looks smooth. Now we just need to see how it does at high ISO's, and some fast action shots. Thanks for posting.

Hi James. This is cropped, and the pixel size of the crop is 11.2 MP. I used Bicubc Sharper in PS, just like I always do.

Terrific shot. Bird seems to be swimming downhill, but I know that wasn't the point here. As a demonstration of the camera's prowess (and yours), its pretty amazing - especially the sharpness at 100%.

    Hi Doug,
Can you do the same thing to show us with an ISO at 1600 and 3200?

Hi Ofer. Frame rate is a relative thing. Coming from a 1D Mark IV it feels pretty slow. The buffer could be better but I'm in the process of buying some UDMA 7 CF cards; that'll be a truer test of things. About the only cons so far are the two things you mentioned; buffer and frame rate.

    Thanks Doug!
I feel like getting one ASAP but I think it would be better for me to wait for more reviews about the 1DX and comparison with the 5D III although I don't really think I will get the 1DX with all its limitations.

Doug, did you process in LR3 or LR4?

If LR4; are you already using 4.1RC?

Very nice and sharp image, Doug. Love the colours and sharpness on the head.
If you read this Ofer, set your Mark IV to L and 6.
It is substantially slower. I tried it for BIF.

Doug, nice shot. the purple cheek patch is great. I think the high sharpness is primarily due to the light angle(high phase angle in Roger's words) ....and the lens...I am assuming it is 400 f5.6 :-) at f/8, it is very sharp. Is there some sharpening in LR defaults?
