Caught this guy just before he disappeared into cover. The crop is huge and the head angle will get me arrested. Inspite of these major negatives, I like the image. IMHO the color palette works. I like the way the bird melts into the cover. D3s, Nikkor 600mm, 1.4TC, f5.6, 1/400, iso 1600, manual, bean bag on truck window, late afternoon. C & C appreciated, I can take it.

I think some get to caught up in head angles. If every people portrait was looking at us, it would be
boring. Like I explain it...the HA is only a guideline, its not a rule.

With that being said, I like this head angle cause it gives me the sense of the subject searching...
maybe waiting for its mate to come home...along that lines. I think you have enough of the eye
    to make it work.

I like it Gary. IMO there are times when a less than ideal head angle works and this is one of them. I think an important part of the image is the veg which partially hits the bird and gives the viewer the impression that you are secretly peering in on the life of the pheasant as it goes about its business.

Hi Gary, I wouldn't trash it and the pose is demonstrating a behavior so the the head angle is not an issue really in this case. Nice color and detail in the head and neck. There are blown whites in the neck, probably could have taken away 1/3 stop for the exposure. I find the OOF elements distracting, especially the ones in the foreground.

I love this photo. This is the type of wildlife/art photography I aspire to.
