Default Some fine layercakes from the swamps of Minesing

Greetings, folks! Autumn is a fine time of year to visit the Minesing sandhill cranes. Here in southern Ontario I take what I can get! Anyhow, geese and cranes were flying about in the last light. I like layercakes like these and will welcome your comments and ideas. I guess it's all geese in this shot. Maybe a crane or two mixed in, as they'll do? Many thanks for looking at this picture! I await your judgments!

I like the layers. The dark at the lower edge give it a base and there are enough geese, etc. to fill that layer with delicate black. I would probably cut a little off the top but it's your vision. Nice tones

I agree with the other comments about the layers, the colors, and cropping some off the top. Right now, the birds are pretty much dead center. I'd crop enough off to put the highest birds (and approximately the interface between the layers) at a divine proportion level. I'd also consider cropping a bit off the right and a fair amount off the left -- enough to eliminate the last five birds -- to give a square format, which can sometimes be effective. It would also leave the question of how many birds were trailing behind unanswered, and that could be a good thing.

Jack, another vote for some off the top. Other than that, a lovely image. I love the bands of color and the geese. It's a lovely scene.

Jack, I like the unique composition. I do agree that the birds are a bit too centered. Dennis akes a good crop suggestion. Colors and the minimalist feel are very nice!

Thanks so much, folks, I really appreciate your comments. I've made a few changes and I have opted for a square format, but being quite fond and happy with the birds in center, and being unwilling to lose the leftmost 5, I've come up with this. Bear in mind that I like square pictures and birds-in-center. I hope to always feel this way. I know, I know, there's no accounting for taste.
Really, thanks again...I'd be curious to hear what you think about this alternate version...

Looks good, Jack. The cropping not only made it more appealing -- to me, at least -- but made the birds proportionally larger, and I think that's a plus, too.

I like the option of the top crop, otherwise I would crop more on the right as well, if I were to use your alternate version. But as was once said ... Your Image ... Your Vision!

Hi Jack, the repost works better for me. Love the colours in the sky...I do wish for a little more of the trees below. The Minesing Swamp is awesome...especially for various species of slipper orchids. Be careful not to get lost in there.

Ha! Thanks Andrew...I wish I'd taken the photo with more trees at the time, but I don't want to add canvas...yes indeed, losing oneself in the nethers of Minesing could lead to one's demise...
