I was able to locate this guy again but this time I prepared right from the start. Put on the waders and went out with the sun behind me. He was fishing for a while then proceeded up to the rocks where he preened, flapped and then slept for a good hour. Early morning sun Ft DeSoto FL. This was a tough exposure to nail. Hope i did OK

    Hi Cheryl,
Very nice wing flap and the exposure is fine. I like the low angle and the water in the foreground. Light is lovely. I can see this with a crop from the top down to the seaweed and a sliver off the left and a bit more on the right to maintain a 3 x 2 ratio. I would also tone down the 2 bright white spots on the rock to the left of the merganser.Love the rock and seaweed he is standing on.
This guy has a very black head compared to the mergansers I have seen. is this part of breeding plumage?

Agree on Gail's crop idea. I would rather see seaweed over it's head. I really like the water in the FG, his perch and the wingflap is nice in very nice light.
