I see Marc had the same thought as I had ...things seemed to have slowed down here this weekend, so here's something thrown into the mix.

I recollect Ken mentioning on a previous Gemsbok post of mine that it's hard to get a proper portrait of them - which is indeed correct as they are hard to expose properly, often are most active when the light is harsh and it's tricky to get eye definition with the black markings on the face.

Here's one I feel achieves that. Taken at the Bedinkt waterhole in the northern region of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa.

    Techs:
    Nikon D3s with 500mm+1.4x @ 700mm
    f8.0 @ 1/1250 SS @ ISO-400
cropped some OOF FG from the bottom, the rest FF as shot

    Simple but effective.

Very true Morkel, this is looking good here, nice lighting also.

    Morkel,

Very nice and you got one good eye, and almost a silly grin.
Plus you have a good memory, this animal is up there with Sable and Roan for exposure difficulty!

Morkel - nicely done. Exp does look good and the simple, vertical comp is effective.

What a nice looking animal. Nice job on getting that facial detail. I like the position of the right rear leg and the flowing tail, adds a little sense of movement.
