    Default Gushing Cataract

A gushing cataract in a remote part of Mt Aspring National Park (South Island, New Zealand) taken in the recent Southern Hemisphere summer. The boulders in the photo are very large. There is a lot of power in the water. This was taken on part of a ten day tramping (NZ word for Hiking) trip over Christmas/New Year. Just getting into sorting these photos as our day lengths are shortening. Because of the such a long trip in remote country I did not take a tripod. Despite it being mid-summer it was quite dark in the valley, hence the higher ISO than I would normally use.

Details: Canon 30D, EFS 17-85mm 4.5-5.6 IS lens. ISO 800 shutter speed: 1/500 sec, f13.

    Cheers,

    Chris

Other matters: By the way my name is coming with a small c in "chris Bycroft". I have not found a way of changing that. Any ideas?

    Hi Chris,

I'd crop that stump out of the bottom of the image, but apart from that it just makes me homesick!

    Hi Chris,
I think that you have captured the feeling of the cataract. My only wish would be for some more water peeking through.
As for the signature........where the search box is.to the left is a user CP link. You should be able to fix it there in one of the menu's.

You don't want to be looking down at this with a fear of heights. I like the zig-zag of the water flow - makes an interesting leading line.
