Looking for feedback on Sigma 800mm
What has the experience been with this glass? I've got a Canon 500 right now and I'm looking to extend my reach - just don't think I can extend my wallet all the way to Canon's 800!
Thanks,
Mark

Mark,
My advice is to stick with your Canon 500 and TCs. Pat and I shot Nikon before switching to Canon about a year ago. We have a Nikon-mount Sigma 300-800. I'm assuming it is optically close to the fixed Sigma 800, which could be wrong.
We were very happy with the IQ of the SigMonster. The big drawback with it is the weight and length - too long to fit in a legit carry-on case. Then we got a Canon 500 and were amazed at how much better it was. Noticeably sharper and better contrast. The SigMonster is slowish on the focus, not horribly so but not quite there for BIF.
With a 1.4 TC you will have a 700 f/5.6 that has IS and better IQ. The Sigma gains only 14% in length, has no IS, and weighs a pound more.
hope this helps,
Alan
