    Default My Cormorant...

    Hello all

I was able to take a few images of this beautiful little fella hasseling fishermen at the local marina this morning... He was waiting for them to catch a fish so he/she could grab the caught fish before the fishermen got a chance to reel it in... The water was smooth as oil and the sky was clear and I was able to lay on the deck of the pier with my bean bag (amongst fish bits,) to take these. It was worth it in my books, what do you think???

Beautiful bird and reflection. Sharp. Head angle pretty close to perfect. A bit too tight in the frame for me. From where I sit, the blues at least are over-juiced..... Be right back.

As presented, some WHITE clipping and lots of clipping with the YELLOW on the bill. For the repost desaturated 10 points, reverse S Curve, lightened the whole thing. Plus a few specks cleaned up.

Holy bats! The original was great, but AM's reposting work has made this bird sing Italian arias to me! Well done, both of you. Also: that is one pulchritudinous cormo!

    Arthur

Thank you so much...I was very happy with this shot although I thought it may have been tight, but I had no choice. If I had of moved back on the pier much then he would have been out of view anyway. I had a bad case of getting so excited of what I was seeing in the viewfinder then forgetting what to do...

Processing, I did not do anything special to the blues but I am happy to desaturate them. Expect a Nik's software order very soon...

    Thanks again

YAW. Been there, done that. In many situation it is possible to create extra canvas above and below and even both sides after the fact. But with all those ripples it would not have been possible in this situation. You did you best, and with such a beautiful bird I can understand your excitement.

It is important to realize that in certain situations images will come out of camera with various colors over the top. That usually happens with REDs but here it was the BLUEs. Keep em coming!

    Do you know the species?

ps: With my Japanese jet-lag hanging on I am having serious doubts about ever making it Down Under....

Sorry Arthur, cannot name species with any great conviction so will have to leave it to others to positively ID. It is very common however. Understand the effect of jet lag, will be heading your way (well Maryland anyway) possibly next week. Done that many times...

The words of wisdom from my BAA basics file I forgot when shooting this fella was to "protect the whites"... I also regularly forget to check for blinkies when I get excited... One day I might grow up. If you ever plan to come to Perth... well you know the rest...I would be honoured.
