Default A Merlin where I work

On Monday, I get a phone call from the EHS manager in the fitness center building where I work and in fact had just left an hour earlier during a lunch workout. Excited, he tells me that a peregrine falcon had just nabbed a pigeon and was feasting on it on the grass right in front of the building. I then realize my Canon 500mm f4 and camera were in my car, because I forgot to remove them from a weekend outing. I quickly drive over from my own building and immediately see the bird in plain sight on the grass. I park my car such that the bird was actually higher up on an incline. Something seemed odd though. This was a very small bird. No dark patch. They were right on the falcon. But it was a Merlin. I sat in my car and took 100 photos while the merlin could have cared less about me. This has been a nemesis bird for me for years and here it was at work.

Lovely pose, shooting angle and agree that the fg feathers add a lot. I also like the more natural look of the grass rather than a nice green lawn.

Great pose here Jeff and the feathers add to the overall story. Loooks a bit harsh on the light.....but very well handled!
