Default Nuttall's Woodpecker on Mule Fat bush

I recently spent a few days at Audubon Kern River Reserve in California looking for this bird. Mostly I heard them and saw them high up in the oak trees. On my last day this little guy landed in a bush in front of me at eye level. It was late in the day and I did not have the speed that I would like to have for a woodpecker but he did pause occasionally as he moved around the bush pecking for insects.

    Very nice.
I also would crop as a vertical, but very nice, as is.

Hi Laurie, tack sharp where it counts, and you have exposed the colours on this fellow very well. I like the pastel BG too. I agree with Gail, a vertical would work, as I feel the space on the right is wasted.

Thank you all for your comments. I know a woodpecker calls for a vertical and i did consider it - just hate to give up all of those pixels with that big of a crop.

Nice and sharp so no problem at 1/250. I can understand a vertical but I like habitat so could go either way. Impressive website Laurie. Lots of lovely photos and 1 typo. I think it is 7th frame in recent album. Sea otters at Morro Bay. Check out California.

nice pose and good details, I think this might work better in a vertical cropping out the branches on the right which are a bit distracting
