    Lol

Captured him in January; unusually sitting up at eye level and very close indeed; remember it was about -5 C

Richard, too close indeed and a different perspective. What bird is this, a pheasant?

    Hi Ezhil
Yes its a wild Pheasant - phasianus clochicus, a resident bird in the UK, the one raised by game keepers for shooting.
Apparently introduced here by either the Romans or Normans.

Love those "ears" Rich! Gorgeous colours and lovely detail. I like the shot very much.
Three things I would suggest, 1) Desaturate the reds a little bit 2) Try a linear burn on the bill and 3) If a similar circumstance presents itself try a smaller aperture at this magnification if at all practicable.

Richard, I like this unique tight head shot. But I am wishing that I could see those beautiful colorful feathers on the body some more.

Great capture! I would love to get this close to this species! I think that the reds are right on the edge and I know that these reds are very red in life, so I'm ok with what you have posted. I would like to see a little more detail under the chin but overall great work, IMO.

Well thank you all for your comments; I took the picture as a head shot but was it was low in the frame as I didnt have time to switch to upper focus point. The bird was quite jumpy and unusually in an exposed close position.
It was quite difficult to get the image brightened up, and correct to say the reds are very on the edge. I am going to spend a little time with it again as I agree with the comments.
I really like the eyes and ears - btw do my friends over the pond know who Wayne Rooney is (think Shrek! lol)
