I agree...very cute bird!! Nice comp and lines. Beautiful background, and perfect subtle look-back glance form the subject. Harsh light, with the high sun creating unwanted shadows on the perch. Try reducing the contrast just a bit to see if that somewhat negates the harshness of the light.

Very nice shot indeed super detail. I would consider cloning the part of the perch heading downwards and repairing the edge with some of the lichen. About 1/3 way along his tail from his body the edge looks just a little soft (??) - maybe just me?

Thank you both for the critique & suggestions, the part of the tail that looks soft, is a shadow on two shorter white feathers.

Beautiful shot, Joe. nice pose, details and sweet sweet background.

I have never seen this bird so I might be wrong. I think there might be a color cast due to the Auto WB. looks like the sun was up...try with daylight WB or even a slightly warmer one using color temp of 5400. agree that reducing contrast will help. when contrast is high, I usually go with neutral picture style and contrast -1.

This one has reduced contrast + warmer WB, I also lifted the shadow slightly on the perch.

Lovely, perch much better for my taste the bird is a little bright, I think lowering it a little will really make this little chap pop.
