Default Lubrication of the tripod collar mount!?

I don't know if the topic is spelled right:)
I have big problem with my Canon EF 300 f/2.8 L IS USM. The tripod collar mount (ring) doesn't spin easy! I have to loosen the knob all the way to be able to turn it easy. But when I have it loosen it is not as smooth and it can ditatch from the lens.

My real question is what type of lubricant should I use to get it work as smooth as i want!?

    /best regards

I am not sure of what the tripod collar on the 300mm 2.8 is like. However I have a Canon 500mm with a fixed tripod collar. At times it will also get "sticky". Fortunately for me a lady posted a solution to my problem. On the Canon 500mm inside of the collar at 90 Deg. to each other are 4 very small screws. Sometimes they will back out a little bit and make the collar "sticky" or hard and uneven to rotate. To access these four screws I need to remove the tripod foot and then rotate the collar to each screw location. The screws are very small so I am careful to not lose them inside the lens.

    I hope this helps you.
