I believe that these are one of the most common gulls on the planet but I think they are beautiful and very photogenic.

What an incredibly beautiful image, Grace. The incoming wave, the raised foot, perfect light, exposure, comp - amazingly nice.

This is so beautiful Grace!!! Were you lying in the water? The curl of the wave is just too much! And the gull is so vivid and sharp I feel I could reach out and touch her. Wonderful capture!

Hi Grace. Must admit, I wasn't initially drawn to this image. But something made me keep looking. Then I started to see what's really in there. Love the colour of the pebbles in the shallow water. That's a great wave with perfect exposure and detail. Then you wonder how hard the bird is going to be hit. Very engaging.

Thanks everyone. Dan, I cannot say honestly that I saw this in camera. When shooting gulls in the waves, I keep my left eye open and try to view the incoming wave with it and then let out a burst of 4 or 5 shots trying to capture the moment before, during, and after impact. When I downloaded my card this one didn't leap out at me until I studied my keepers and saw what you did. Sometimes it just happens.

Same here Grace - sometimes you see a situation that has potential, you expose the way you think best, frame it and then hit the trigger and hope for the best. Even then it isn't always obvious if you have something special - it also takes the artistic eye to "know" or "see" what you have. From my experience here on BPN, Grace has the artistic eye .
