I took this image in the late afternoon on 4/24/2011 in Central Montana. Rooster pheasants were establishing breeding territories to attract hens. Picture was taken out the window of a pickup truck on a beanbag. Feedback appreciated.

Hi Craig, nice capture of the pheasant with good color rendition and exposure. The light was a little strong so the image ends up being a bit contrasty, but the pose and eye contact are super. A flatter angle to the camera's sensor would have stretched the DOF budget, resulting in the tail being sharper. I like how you positioned the bird in the frame.

    Craig,

Love the colors and that alone is enough for a picture but this interesting species is always a delight to see. I like the subjects placement and as Kerry mentioned the strong light of day always causes the image to have more contrast. On balance, nice job with the afternoon light with strong composition well done.

Almost forgot - nice head angle.

    Craig,

Greetings. Good comp & the angle very challenging if the tail is as long as the ones I've seen. I think you have plenty of color contrast to perhaps try less saturation to see how that looks. I think it would reduce some of the harsh aspects of the contrast.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

I tried reworking the image to reduce the contrast a bit. Does this help? I still have a ways to go in processing my RAW images and hope participating in this forum will help with honing my skills.
    Thanks again for your feedback.
    Craig
