These common little birds have been my most willing subjects lately so I have made the most of them. D700, 300mm f2.8, 1.4tc, tripod. 1/160, f6.3, iso800. Cloudy WB. Adj exposure in acr. Brightened eye, usm in CS3. This is about 60% of the original.

    This is a setup.

The grass perch is really nice.
I prefer the first one personally, the BG is so nice and it gives a better sense of environment.

Another very natural looking set up and lovely bg. I like the nice location of the bird. I also prefer the more open space of the first. Both are very well done.

Excellent shot! Like the first better for 2 reasons. First, the image quality held up better and second the height above the bird gives it a more open field feel...if that makes any sense. Fantastic background.

I too prefer the first crop. It's unconvetional but it works IMO. Nice background and perch. Some of the grass blades are rather bright and may be worth the time to tone them down.

Thanks for your time folks. I too liked the first post but was not sure what everyone would think about the space above the bird.
