Default Some gulls on the beach

Nice light on the beach yesterday, and so I pretended I was in sunny F-L-A instead of here in old O-N-T and when I squinted pretty good these ring-billed gulls almost looked like plovers...a man without colorful subject is still a man, and if we forget that r.b. gulls are one of the most common birds around we can see that they are most photogenic indeed. Taken with the Canon 7D, iso400, 1/500, f16. I'll be the first to tell you that the shot is far from excellent, and I certainly have my own criticisms of it, but I am sharing it because I find it pleasing and interesting and will await and welcome your comments and suggestions...

I like this image Jack. Most of the gulls are in focus and fairley sharp. What lens were you using?

Jack! My mistake! How could I have been so reckless? This was the 70-300L, at 70mm.

I think it is a cool shot.
You don't see a lot of f16 bird photos!
The only unfortunate aspect is all the cut off birds at the top, but I
realize how lucky one has to be to get them all in the photo.

Not sure what to think of this one Jack. It doesn't stir me much visually, but I do like the "beach sounds" I can almost hear from looking at it...and it is a typically chaotic gull scene, especially if food is involved The shore is just too messy, and alot of not so ideal merges between the gulls. Kudos for experimenting, but I'm sure you'll get something better by keeping trying with these experiments.

Cropping out the open space on the left (as viewed) gives more of a "face in the flock" feel for me. Lots of relatively sharp faces in this version of a flight blur.

A relatively easy shot to experiment with as the gulls are spooked every time a nasty mutt comes running by...I'm very fond of the cluttered beach but am not at all fond of the cut-off gulls at the top. That's what almost ruins the picture for me. But there were enough likeable things about the shot for me to keep it, and post it...thanks again for the feedback, good folks, it's highly appreciated...
