Good job for a "practice" shot. I have never been able to take a decent picture of a BIF so I am somehow jealous here. What lens did you use?

The image looks a bit over-sharpened to me. Looking at the tip of the wing on the left, I see some "stairs" effect on the pixels. Did you sharpen the image before resizing it? I'm definitely not an expert in sharpening so I'll let the more experienced guys comment on that, but that's the only cause I can think of at the moment.

Lighting for BIF is something I have not yet been able to figure out. Since they are pretty much always lit from above, they always end up with shadows on the underparts due to the wings. I have no idea how to try to avoid it, but maybe in your case I would try to brighten up a bit under the wing on the left. The sharp limit between the light and dark areas catches my eye quickly.

Otherwise, maybe I would add a bit of room under the bird, but I'm not totally sure about this one. Let's see what others will think about it.

A very nice shot, especially considering how frustrating BIF photography can be. I'll be glad the day I manage to get my first shot as good as this one.

Well done Steve. The crop is a little tight for my taste (more room below and to left needed). However, the image is sharp and you didn't clip any wings! BIF is a huge challenge in nature photography and you are definitely on the right track.

Those graceful angles in the wings remind me why BIF is worth the trouble and frustration.

Looks beautiful. It is a bit tight but nice and sharp. Gulls are excellent for practising BIF shots, keep up the good work.
