Perhaps not the most spectacular of the 300+ species of hummingbirds in the world. Nevertheless the Royal Sunangel is certainly unique! Restricted to a small area of northern Peru and Southern Ecuador these birds are such a beautiful shade of deep royal blue. I was thrilled to find one after a few days searching :)

What a lovely bird. Really sharp where it needs to be. Imagine shooting a hummingbird at 1/200 with 1100mm effective focal length! Good use of the flash, too. I think you've shown off this bird to its very best advantage. This is just spectacularly well done, and I love the great view of the feet.

It is a very unique looking hummer and good for you to be able to track it down. Lovely bg, pose and perch.

I love the deep royal blue and the HA.
Are the primaries that long or is the wing drooping down ?

Must have been really close !!! Even 5.6 aperture DOF was not enough to cover this little fella !

Sharp where it matters, Glen, although a bit more depth of field would be an improvement - but you could not afford to come down on that shutter speed. Beautifully composed - you are certainly finding some fantastic, unusual birds!
