Enjoyed photographing some juvenile bald eagles last week of various ages. Studying their different plumage has been interesting. This one appears to be approx 3 years old. There was also a lot of bickering going on between them which was amusing but not easy to capture. Next time. I am not too experienced with high key images, but lightened up the greyish sky in this one b/c it seemed to make the raptor pop a little more.

A most artful capture indeed. I love the stark white background...the bird and "stick" really pop out. I'd love to criticize the photo but I like it and have no nitpicky nitpicks to share. Thanks for sharing this fine image...

Interesting tail and wing positions, Marina. Was he drying his feathers after getting wet? I like the image, and the composition, though showing that much perch makes for a relatively small bird when you only have 800 vertical pixels. I'd love to see it bigger.

Lovely perch , nice exposure on the bird . If this is a FF , would be tempted to crop a bit from the bottom for an alternative composition too .

I like the composition and the pose. You lightened the sky to make the bird pop, I wonder though if this is beginning to make the bird and the tree look a little too dark and or contrasting. The more I stare directly at the bird the more I am convinced the exposure on it is good, I would like to see the shot with a less bright sky. I appreciate this is contrary to your intention but for me I feel the sky doesn't add.

    Marian:

Strong graphic quality from the high key effect, strong, simple lines.

I could see a minor crop from below, but like it as posted also.

I originally viewed it with a white BG, but really preferred it with the dark grey BG of "Capt James skin.

I might try to lighten the eye area just a bit.

    Cheers

Hi Marina, I like your image design and how the tree/perch 'grows' up towards the ULC. Good sharp detail throughout, and Im fine with the grey BG as is. Im not familiar with this species, but wondering if you lowered the contrast on him a touch, as I feel the eagle is too 'contrasty'.

Wonderful image. I really like the high key, great pose, great perch, and very well composed.
    Well done.

Marina, excellent composition. I am liking the eagle looking out of the frame here.

    Hey Marina,
I really like how this guy is sitting there and the simple wing position . I also like that he is looking out of the frame. I am with Stuart on the contrast and Rakesh on the crop. I feel less perch might make the bird stand out better.

Nice shot Marina. Looks more like a two years old than a 3 years old : color of the eye seems brown and not yellowish, plumage looks also like rags a characteristics associated with a 2 years old according to the David Buehler article about known age bald eagles ...if my memory is good!
