Took this from Shadle's boat on Alafia Banks, Tampa, FL, a couple weeks ago. We had bum luck on weather, it was dark and gloomy all day. Hence the high ISO. Despite the gloom, James got us near some great birds per usual and we had a great time.
Slight crop, brought down EXP some (whites were a bit hot), sharpened, NR. I liked that the nuptial plume was raised in flight here.
Thanks so much for looking and for any and all feedback.

Beautiful image Melissa. If I could suggest one tiny tweak it would be to clone out the orange/brown on the right. It might be me but I find my eye travelling from the herons eye to that spot because its also a warm spot in all that green.

    Kind regards.

Lovely shot. Bird pops nicely from bg, wing is fully down and very sharp. Really well done.

Well I sure didn't take one home as great as this. It is awesome. Congrats on getting a great wing position and super look at the eye.

Beautifully taken and presented. When I see your name I know it'll be an image worth looking at. That 400 must be a load to hand hold.

Melissa, liked this one a lot. the wing position especially. full-down made sure DOF wasn't much of an issue at wide-open aperture. terrific details and agree with the placement of the subject in the frame.

I would tone down the spot on right too. Excellent capture. PP brings out details and eye of the heron very well.

Ron, thank you for your very kind comment. As for the 400, it's not the DO, it's the non-IS f/5.6 known for being very light and maneuverable. I think Artie has referred to it affectionately as a "toy" lens! It can be super for flight photography.
