    Nice expression caught Jay.

A head turn toward camera would've been ideal.

The head seems just a tad soft. A little bit more of sharpening should do the trick.

Were you standing or kneeling? If kneeling, this is a case where standing probably
would've been ideal cause you could've lost that top most of the background.
If standing, a couple of steps backword/forward would've also accomplished the
    same thing.

I remember my first trip down to Florida (I'm in Ohio) and I saw park signs warning car
owners that they weren't responsible for any damage vultures might do to the
    rubber molding on the cars.

    Jay:

Good critique from Doug. Lots of good advice. Lower isn't always better, depends on how your shooting angle works with the BG.

Like the calling pose (just wish for more angle our way)

Thank you for your comments and yes I was kneeling. I thought from other critiques lowering the camera angle was ideal but I understand from this point of view there was too much BG. I have other shots of eye contact with the camera, however the one I submitted was the only one with the open expression which I thought was unique.

    Jay:

A lower shooting angle often has many advantages, more intimate, throws the BG more out of focus, etc. but it there is a distracting color or pattern in the BG, even if out of focus, it may be better to go a bit higher to eliminate it. I often shoot both angles, higher and lower, and chose the one that works the best for that overall picture

    Cheers

Already have been good comments on angle and comp. The action is what makes this photo appealing but the IQ on the head detracts somewhat.

Neat pose, we don't see these guys with an open bill very often in photos. Check out the dirty plumage too (it's OK for this species). I agree with the HA and sharpness, and in this case I may have tried some photos ehile lying flat on the ground (if possible and if you are physically able to). I see some cloning artefatcs in front of the subject's legs and behind your signature...
