I shot this image at the Viera Wetlands the other day as this Snowy Egret was hunting for something to eat. I'm not much on these kind of creatures, but this one was obviously fighting for it's life, which I beleive he lost. I would like your thoughts on this image. Shooting data is as follows:
    Nikon D3S
    2012:03:06 114:13
    850mm
    850mm (in 35mm film)

    Mode: Manual
    Metering: Multi-segment
    Exp comp: -1/3
    ISO: 200
    White balance: Auto

Great moment captured, something went wrong with the PP, quality is not good.
What did you do to the shot? Was it a big crop?

    Hi Troy,
I did very little PP. Here is the original except instead of NEF it was converted to JPG. See what you can do.

Here is the quick edit. I did not do anything other than adjusting the exposure and cropping.
Part of the issue is the big crop I believe.

great expression and a nice prey/ unfortunately poor image processing has led to poor IQ (it has nothing to do with crop, just bad processing)

check out the various guides on how to process your NEF files.

    Wheeler:

I like the moment captured, the fish wrapping around the bill. I do agree with Arash about the problem being the post processing. The D3s file should easily handle this type of crop if handled well.

I also might suggest shooting at a slightly higher ISO to give yourself more flexibility on aperture and shutter speed. From an image quality standpoint, the D3s just doesn't need to be shot at such a low ISO.

I know that Roger Clark is doing a raw processing thread and this might be an interesting one to submit for processing to see what other folks can get out of it! Here is the link:

The comments so far cover all of my thoughts. It's a great moment captured, so congrats on that Wheeler. A better IQ would make this a winner.
