composition, pose, spotlight, details...all very nice. wishing for a nicer BG. not sure if you could have gone lower and what BG that would have created. I'd have explored that definitely....have a feeling you did as well.

Sharp with a good EXP. If you had moved a bit to your left, you could have centered the bird's head in the dominant tree trunk.... Nice head angle. As present cleaning up the white specks on the bank would improve this one a lot.

I love the lighting and the pose and the excellent plumage detail. I would imagine you saw the opportunity and took it before the bird moved out of the lovely light. I agree the bill would have looked better against the slightly lighter area but I have to admit had I been there it would not have occurred to me.

    Arthur,
    Thanks for your suggestion.
I live in Cypress, Texas near Houston. The photo was taken hand held at Pilant Lake in Brazos Bend State Park.
I certainly could have moved to get better background contrast. I did not think of it at the time, but thanks to you I will next time.
    Thanks,

    Lynn

I really like the subtle colours and the details here. Agree with KD on having gone a little low. Nextime I suppose
